Over dit land
Slovenië is het enige EU-land dat exclusief inheemse bijen beschermt: alleen de Carniolische honingbij mag gehouden worden. Het land heeft de meeste imkers per hoofd van de bevolking ter wereld. Ljubljana was in 2016 de Europese Groene Hoofdstad. Het initiatief voor Wereldbijendag op 20 mei kwam van Slovenië.
