Tonga is het enige koninkrijk in de Stille Oceaan en werd nooit gekoloniseerd. Het land viert als eerste ter wereld nieuwjaar (voor Kiribati de datumgrens verlegde was dit anders). Walvissen komen elk jaar naar de wateren rond Tonga om te paren en te kalveren.
Tonga is the only kingdom in the Pacific and was never colonized. The country celebrates New Year first in the world (before Kiribati moved the date line, this was different). Whales come to the waters around Tonga each year to mate and give birth.
